The foundation for the new Atoll Hospital in Kudahuvadhoo has been laid, with Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, inaugurating the project.

The hospital will be built by the Road Development Corporation (RDC), following an agreement signed at the Health Ministry.

During the signing ceremony, Minister of State Ahmed Qasim represented the Health Ministry, while RDC was represented by its Deputy Managing Director, Mohamed Asbah Ali Naseer. The project, which involves the development of a 50-bed facility, has been allocated a completion period of 18 months and is expected to cost MVR 181 million.

The new hospital will provide a range of essential medical services, including mammography, dental care, and specialised bone treatment. Additionally, it will feature private rooms, staff facilities, and training areas for healthcare professionals. Emergency care services, flu clinics, and isolation units will also be incorporated into the facility to enhance healthcare accessibility for the region.

As part of his visit to Kudahuvadhoo, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also laid the foundation stone for a new Bank of Maldives (BML) building. The ceremony was attended by BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb and BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef.

BML currently operates in a private building in Kudahuvadhoo, and the construction of the new branch is expected to be completed by December this year. The bank aims to introduce expanded services with the new facility. In addition to this development, a self-service ATM was launched on the island, further enhancing banking accessibility for the community.

President Dr Muizzu’s visit to Kudahuvadhoo is part of a broader tour of islands within the atoll. He is accompanied by several ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises as part of his engagement with local communities and ongoing development initiatives.
