The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has formally submitted a no-confidence motion against the Minister Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, scheduled for discussion in tomorrow’s parliamentary session.

The motion, endorsed by 12 opposition Members of Parliament, alleges the improper use of personal information of citizens stored in the Department of National Registration (DNR).

In its petition, the MDP contends that sensitive personal data contained in forms submitted to the Election Commission could not have been obtained from any source other than the DNR database.

The party further argues that Minister Ihusaan's continued tenure risks compromising the integrity of the ongoing criminal investigation into the matter and poses a potential threat to national security.

Minister Ihusaan assumed office a year and two months ago, around the time the case was first reported. Since then, he has undertaken efforts to enhance the operational efficiency of his Ministry’s workforce. Additionally, under his leadership, the Ministry of Homeland Security has implemented measures to address critical national security concerns, including illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and organised crime.
