The Maldives has been appointed Chair of the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia for the 2025–2027 term, during meetings held in Jakarta from April 15–16. At the sessions, the Maldives co-chaired the 37th Joint Meeting and chaired the 60th South Asia Commission meeting. State Minister for Tourism and Environment Dr Abdulla Niyaz highlighted efforts to expand tourism to local islands and promote sustainability.
