Practical work has officially commenced on the long-stalled football ground development in Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathodaa.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced that it has begun work on the project, which had been delayed for two years.

According to a post on X by MTCC, the development includes laying a FIFA-standard turf, installing goal posts and fencing, and placing four benches on the site.

MTCC stated that the completion of the football ground is expected to provide numerous social benefits and conveniences for the approximately 1,800 residents of Faresmaathodaa.

The project is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to expedite the completion of stalled development projects across various islands in the Maldives, with several such projects subsequently assigned to MTCC.
