The Maldives National University (MNU) recently concluded its inaugural robotic hackathon, an event aimed at showcasing the innovative projects of computer science students.
Organised under the Robotic Module of the Computer Science Department, the two-day hackathon provided participants with the opportunity to design and build their own robotic devices.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the National University, Dr Aishath Shehnaz Adam, highlighted the significance of this event and expressed hope that the initiative would serve as a catalyst for future innovations and enriching educational experiences.
She underlined the crucial role of young people in driving innovation, noting that the hackathon demonstrated the students’ creative potential. Dr Shehnaz stated that the vision of the National University of the Maldives is to become a centre of practical learning and innovation, where theory and hands-on experience intersect. Events such as this enable the university to advance that vision by actively involving students in creating solutions for the future.
Over the course of the two-day event, students received training in robotics construction, significantly enhancing their practical skills. The university noted that such activities greatly improve student productivity and provide additional facilities that support their development in professional settings.
The Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology at the National University of the Maldives holds robotic hackathons annually, with last year’s event also seeing students create various types of robots.
