The Islamic library at King Salman Mosque was officially inaugurated on Saturday night, as part of the Government’s broader initiative to revitalise mosques and strengthen access to Islamic scholarship across the Maldives.

The facility was opened in a ceremony attended by Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, along with senior officials from the Islamic Ministry. The inauguration fulfils a key presidential pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to establish Islamic libraries across the nation.

Located on the mosque’s third floor, the library has been developed to modern standards and features a comfortable, quiet space for study and research. It currently houses more than 15,000 books, with a wide-ranging collection covering various Islamic disciplines.

Speaking at the event, Minister Dr Shaheem described the inauguration as the result of the hard work and dedication of many individuals. He encouraged religious scholars to donate their personal collections to enrich the library and further called for the inclusion of works by Maldivian authors.

The Minister highlighted the broader initiative to establish libraries in mosques across the country, noting that a foreign university has pledged to donate an additional 60,000 books. These will be distributed to other Islamic centres, including those in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo, Raa Ungoofaaru, Thinadhoo City, and Addu City.

According to the Islamic Ministry, the newly launched library is expected to serve both the general public and academic researchers, supporting self-guided study and in-depth exploration of Islamic knowledge.
