Government contracts RDC for major roadworks in seven atolls

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been contracted to upgrade road infrastructure in 11 islands across seven atolls, under an agreement signed with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.

The project aims to modernise key roads frequently used by residents, with a completion timeline of 730 days. The agreement was formalised on 7 August, 2025 by State Minister Hassan Rasheed on behalf of the ministry, and Managing Director Ibrahim Nazim on behalf of RDC.

The following islands have been earmarked for road development, with individual budgets allocated:

  • Haa Alifu Thuraakunu – MVR 65.5 million
  • Haa Aalifu Nolhivaranfaru – MVR 101.2 million
  • Haa Alifu Filladhoo – MVR 65.5 million
  • Shaviyani Maroshi – MVR 60.2 million
  • Noonu Maafaru – MVR 116 million
  • Baa Thulhaadhoo – MVR 70.9 million
  • Baa Kudarikilu – MVR 53.5 million
  • Meemu Muli – MVR 85 million
  • Thaa Guraidhoo – MVR 74.4 million
  • Thaa Hirilandhoo – MVR 70.5 million
  • Thaa Kinbidhoo – MVR 79.5 million

The Government stated that the project reflects its commitment to improving essential infrastructure and ensuring consistent development across all regions.
