President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged a wide range of development projects for Alifu Alifu Feridhoo on 19 August, 2025.

Speaking during a meeting with residents of the island, as part of his ongoing tour of the atoll, the President said the initiatives reflect priorities identified through community consultations and will be implemented at an accelerated pace.

The Government will build a new health centre, establish a quality laboratory, and deploy specialist doctors in areas of need, to raise healthcare standards. Education facilities will also be expanded under a newly signed MoU to construct classrooms, a multipurpose hall, science laboratory, a library, a staff room, a Special Educational Needs (SEN) class along with a principle and teachers. President Dr Muizzu said the detailed design and formalities will be completed within three months, after which work will commence.

To strengthen security, the President confirmed that a police station will be established on the island, while interim services will continue until the facility is ready. He also announced that the road modernisation project for Feridhoo, already budgeted, will be handed over to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) within upcoming weeks. The boat building area will also undergo development, alongside measures to resolve harbour issues and improve connectivity.

The President further pledged new community and recreational facilities, including a football ground, fitness and recreation centre, outdoor gym, and a modern mosque to accommodate up to 500 worshippers. Plans also include an Islamic library and the opening of an outreach unit of the National Centre for the Holy Quran.

Alongside these initiatives, President Dr Muizzu announced that Maafaru Falhu will be made part of Feridhoo and developed into a picnic island for local tourism. He assured residents that the project would be carried out in a way that protects the natural beauty of the island, while creating social and economic opportunities for the community.
