The long-awaited housing project in AA. Bodufolhudhoo is set to commence next year, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu confirming that funding for 50 housing units will be allocated in the 2026 national budget. Construction is scheduled to begin within the same year, and the project is expected to be commissioned early in 2027.
The announcement was made during a community meeting in Bodufolhudhoo, held as part of the President’s tour of inhabited islands across North Ari Atoll. Highlighting the severe housing shortage faced by residents, the President said the new units would provide a lasting solution to one of the island’s most pressing challenges.
In addition to the housing initiative, an agreement was signed for the development of a new classroom and a multipurpose hall at Bodufolhudhoo School. The President pledged that the project would be treated as a top priority, with construction set to begin within three months.
Other development plans announced during the visit include the construction of a handball field, the installation of lighting at the island’s football ground, and the activation of the Fitness and Recreation Centre. Both the lighting and recreation projects are expected to be delivered on schedule in close coordination with the contractor.
The President further revealed that four hectares of land already acquired on the island would be formally transferred by the end of 2026. He noted that the process would be carried out in line with coastal protection measures to safeguard the island’s environment.
President Dr Muizzu assured residents that development in Bodufolhudhoo would be accelerated, with tangible improvements to community life delivered in the near future.
