The Government has launched a series of development projects in Alifu Alifu Thoddoo, marked by multiple groundbreaking ceremonies attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and members of his Cabinet during his official visit to the atoll.
The first ceremony initiated the construction of a new police station, officiated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, alongside Commissioner of Police Mohamed Naveen, Road Development Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Nazeem, and the Thoddoo Council President. The project is part of the Administration’s policy to expand police services across all inhabited islands within the next two years.
President Dr Muizzu also presided over the groundbreaking of the new Thoddoo Council Secretariat, inaugurated by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to provide modern office buildings to island councils facing space constraints. The Government has announced construction contracts for 105 councils, a move expected to resolve space issues for 70 per cent of local authorities once completed.
A third ceremony marked the start of work on a new badminton court, inaugurated by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, RDC Managing Director Mohamed Nazeem, and the Thoddoo Council President. The facility is expected to boost youth engagement in sports and provide the community with improved recreational opportunities.
