President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the responsibility of every Maldivian to pass on the nation’s inherited values and traditions to future generations.

Speaking at the official National Day celebrations held today in Haa Alifu Utheemu, the President underscored that the true essence of patriotism lies not only in nurturing it within oneself, but in ensuring that it is instilled in the next generation.

In this regard, the President emphasised that the most important thing is to cultivate patriotism in our hearts and pass it on to future generations. That is how the country will continue to remain a nation, he added.

He urged citizens to safeguard the Maldives’ unique identity and heritage, stressing that it is the responsibility of every individual to carry forward the traditions of the Maldivian people.

Reflecting on the values and virtues that have defined the Maldivian identity over the years, the President highlighted that as a community, we must treat others with the same respect and dignity we damnd for ourselves. He called on the Government and the people alike to recognise that our dignity as a nation remains deeply rooted in our national values.

The President went on to stress that true freedom of speech does not embody speaking or writing without consideration to others, but that as a Muslim, every Maldivian must strive to preserve truth and dignity in their actions and words.

President Dr Muizzu added that reaffirming this duty on National Day is essential for protecting the nation’s future and ensuring its values are preserved for generations to come.

He further expressed concern over the erosion of mutual respect in present-day society, contrasting it with the sacrifices of national heroes who defended the country and safeguarded its independence.
