President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that significant changes will be made to the ongoing harbour project in Haa Dhaalu Finey, in line with the requests of island residents.

During a meeting with the island community as part of his tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the President noted that the harbour is one of the most important development priorities for Finey. He said that while the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has already begun work, adjustments will be introduced in next year’s State budget to ensure the project reflects residents’ needs. In addition, the President stated that the Government and MTCC would continue working with the community to realise their expectations.

The President also pledged to relocate Finey School, confirming that funds for the relocation will be included in the 2026 State budget. The decision follows repeated requests from residents, who have voiced concerns over the school’s lack of space, which forced the multipurpose hall to be built on a separate plot of land.

Highlighting the importance of a safe and reliable road network on a large island like Finey, the President noted that practical work is expected to commence soon under the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

He further stated that next year’s budget would include provisions for a high-quality football stadium, while work on a Fitness and Recreation Centre would continue this year. An outdoor gym and a volleyball court are also planned for completion in the near future.

In addition, the President said that multiple community projects would be implemented in Finey, including a waste management centre, a children’s park, and upgrades to the island’s electricity system to increase capacity and support newly allocated residential plots.
