Work on the Boduthakurufaanu north side road development project in Malé City is progressing steadily, with 72 metres of sheet piling completed and demolition works on the quay wall capping for Segment 1 finalised, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said.

MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee inspected the site on 1 September, where reclamation works are also underway to extend the road and build a new quay wall. The project, which began on 21 August 2025, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve urban infrastructure on one of the busiest stretches of road in the capital.

Awarded by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the contract is valued at MVR 144.5 millionand requires completion within 455 days. The scheme will expand the outer ring road into four lanes, while introducing modern features such as a stormwater drainage system to reduce flooding, improved traffic signage, and pedestrian-friendly road design.

The first phase of the project covers an 830-metre stretch between the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal and the Local Market. This involves reclaiming part of the lagoon to create additional road space, which will allow smoother traffic flow while improving safety for pedestrians.
