Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has launched the Maldives Book of Records, a new national initiative designed to highlight notable natural, cultural, and historical records across the country.
The launch took place on National Tourism Day 2025.
According to Visit Maldives, the project aims to document and promote a range of national records, including the largest lagoon, the oldest mosque, the tallest monument, and the deepest dive point, as part of efforts to diversify the tourism experience. The initiative seeks to present the Maldives as a destination known not only for its beaches and resorts but also for its unique geography, heritage, and achievements.
In a statement, VMC stated that both residents and visitors will be able to propose or attempt new records in fields such as sports, environmental sustainability, culture, and marine exploration. Verified records will be added to the official collection and promoted as part of the country’s tourism narrative.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Ibrahim Shiuree, described the initiative as a new chapter in how the Maldives presents itself to the world. He stated that it aims to recognise the country’s diversity and accomplishments while encouraging more interactive forms of travel.
The Maldives Book of Records will continue to expand as new entries are verified, with Visit Maldives stating that it will serve as a living archive of national achievements and notable sites.
