Belgian manufacturer Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) is supplying five high-capacity generator sets for the central powerhouse in Addu City.
The procurement agreement was signed last week through ABC’s local agent, Definite Solutions, as part of efforts to upgrade the atoll’s electricity infrastructure.
Under the agreement, ABC will supply five 8DL36 generator sets with a combined capacity of 26 megawatts. The generators are expected to significantly increase electricity generation capacity in Addu City.
ABC, founded in 1912, is known for manufacturing medium-speed diesel engines used in power generation projects worldwide. The company stated that the generators will help improve the reliability and sustainability of electricity supply in Addu once the new system becomes operational.
In a statement shared on LinkedIn, ABC expressed appreciation to Fenaka Corporation for placing its trust in the company’s technology and noted that the 8DL36 generator units are designed to support the requirements of large-scale power systems.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Saturday that the new electricity system being developed for Addu is expected to meet the atoll’s electricity demand for the next 20 years once completed.
