The Department of National Registration (DNR) has commenced printing and issuing ID cards in Thaa Guraidhoo and Thimarafushi, expanding decentralised identification services to make them more accessible across the atolls. The initiative, a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, aims to eliminate the need for citizens to travel to Malé for basic documentation. With this latest expansion, ID services are now available in all atolls, significantly improving efficiency and convenience for residents. The Government also plans to introduce the same services in Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom, following Malaysia as the first country to offer Maldivian ID issuance abroad.
