Asphalt work has been completed on the first section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu as part of the project to expand the road to four lanes. According to project officials, 97 per cent of the first phase is now finished, with road markings and signboard installation set to follow.

The upgrade covers an 830-metre stretch on the northern side of the road, including 737 metres of sheet piling, a new sub-base, separate pedestrian lanes and an improved drainage system. The expansion is expected to ease long-standing traffic congestion in the area, which has been a major inconvenience for motorists and residents.

Modernising Malé’s road network remains a key development priority, with the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project forming part of a broader plan initiated under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Additional roads in Malé are also scheduled for redevelopment.
