President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that journalism should be conducted professionally, objectively, and with respect for individual dignity.

Speaking at a community meeting in Maafannu, the President reiterated that there are no obstacles to factual and objective journalism in the Maldives, within the boundaries of religion.

Addressing a question by a journalist, President Dr Muizzu assured that his Administration remains accountable to the Fourth Estate, referring to his previous 15-hour long press conference, and assured that opportunities for future engagement would continue. He highlighted that journalism is a responsible profession, and media outlets must maintain standards of accuracy and fairness while respecting the rights and dignity of individuals.

The President noted that any media that declares an editorial policy which is strictly anti-government undermines journalistic professionalism and shifts focus to reporting from a political perspective as opposed to objective journalism. He also stated that the current Administration safeguards freedom of the press, ensuring that reporting complies with the law and does not infringe on ethical or religious principles.

The President stressed that the public’s right to access accurate information must be balanced with equality and respect for individual rights, reinforcing the role of journalism in serving society responsibly.
