The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that 78 drug bullets were recovered from the body of a Nepali man found dead inside a guesthouse room in Hulhumalé.

According to police, the man was discovered on 30 November with no visible signs of injury. However, a CT scan later revealed foreign objects inside his intestines, which were found to be drug bullets weighing a total of 818 grams.

Police said the 40-year-old man arrived in the Maldives on 26 November with two other Nepali nationals. The trio checked into a Hulhumalé guesthouse in the early hours of 28 November, but the two accompanying individuals reportedly left the country the same day.

Due to the condition of the body, the extraction procedure could not be performed in a hospital setting. Instead, it was carried out by medical professionals under the guidance of specialist doctors. The Prosecutor General’s Office has been consulted to determine the appropriate legal steps.

MPS said further details cannot be released at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to verify information, identify additional suspects, and establish the full scope of those involved. Police also urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and to share only verified details regarding the case.
