The Maldives has recorded 2.04 million tourist arrivals as of early December 2025, reflecting a 10 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Tourism Indicators.

Daily arrivals now average 6,056, with China leading as the top source market at 15.4 percent of arrivals, followed by Russia at 12.5 per cent and the United Kingdom at 9.0 percent. Resorts continue to account for the largest share of accommodation, holding 67 per cent of total operational capacity, while guesthouses make up 24 per cent. A total of 66,761 beds are currently in operation across the country, representing 99.3 per cent of capacity.

Tourism remains widely distributed across the atolls, with Kaafu Atoll hosting the largest concentration of resorts and guesthouses. Alifu Dhaalu, Alifu Alifu, and Baa Atolls maintain strong activity through established resort zones.

Air connectivity remains a major driver of growth, with more than 30 airlines currently operating flights to the Maldives, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Etihad Airways, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Air India, and several Chinese carriers, linking the country to key hubs in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment continues to engage industry stakeholders on future strategies, with Minister Thoriq Ibrahim holding consultations to strengthen collaboration and sector planning. Data collection for the Maldives Visitor Survey 2025 has also begun at Velana International Airport (VIA) to better understand traveller behaviour, expectations, and satisfaction. In parallel, Visit Maldives has been actively promoting the destination at major tourism events, including the Eurasia Tourism & Health Expo 2025 in Istanbul and ILTM Cannes 2025.

With arrivals continuing to climb and capacity expanding across multiple regions, the Maldives enters the final weeks of 2025 with strong momentum. The combined push from industry partners, airlines, and destination marketing signals a sector that is not only recovering but reshaping itself for sustained long-term growth.
