Ministry launches survey to support development of community-based tourism

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has commenced a nationwide survey aimed at supporting the development of the tourism industry, with a particular focus on community-based tourism.
The survey, which is being conducted from 4 to 27 December, seeks to collect key statistical data to inform policymaking and strengthen existing rules and regulations governing the sector. The ministry stated that the findings will also contribute to improving the quality of services provided to the public and enhancing tourism-related services within local communities across the Maldives.
According to the ministry, the survey is intended to gather information essential for the sustainable development of community-based tourism. Priority is being given to guesthouse operators, Maldivian residents and tourists visiting local islands.
Data collection is being carried out in Hulhumalé, Kaafu Dhiffushi, Kaafu Maafushi, Alifu Alifu Thoddoo, Alifu Alifu Dhigurah, Vaavu Keyodhoo, Baa Fulhadhoo and Baa Fehendhoo. The ministry confirmed that data from Hulhumalé, Maafushi and Dhiffushi have already been collected.
The survey aims to strengthen the tourism sector while ensuring sustainable growth and greater community participation.
