President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the Government’s intention to amend the law to allow individuals undergoing long-term treatment for serious illnesses to withdraw their pension savings in full.

There have been longstanding public calls to expand the circumstances under which pension funds may be accessed, particularly in cases involving serious health conditions.

Addressing residents of Galolhu on Tuesday, President Dr Muizzu outlined proposed amendments to the pension law, highlighting the provision for individuals receiving long-term treatment for serious or terminal illnesses to access their entire pension balance.

“This includes allowing persons with terminal illnesses to withdraw their pension in full,” the President said.

The President said the proposed changes will be included in a set of legal amendments to be submitted in the coming period.
