President commends Maldives Women’s Volleyball Team ahead of CAVA Cup Final

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has praised the Maldives women’s national volleyball team for reaching the final of the Women’s Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Cup 2025, describing their performance as a source of national pride. 

He expressed confidence that the team will secure victory in tonight’s championship match and noted that the Maldivian public stands firmly behind them.

The Maldives earned their place in the final on Wednesday with a decisive straight-sets win over Bangladesh at the Social Centre Indoor Hall, taking the match 25–17, 25–12, 25–12. Aminath Shaha Shamin and Hawwa Rashidha led the scoring with 14 points each, while Aminath Areesha contributed 11.

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan defeated Afghanistan 3–1 to advance, taking the opening sets 25–17 and 25–14 before Afghanistan claimed the third 28–26. Kyrgyzstan sealed the win 25–15 in the fourth.

The tournament concludes on Thursday, 25 December, with Afghanistan and Bangladesh competing for bronze at 4:20 p.m, followed by the Maldives facing Kyrgyzstan for the title at 8:40 p.m. The closing ceremony will take place after the final.
