Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, has firmly rejected claims that Malé Port is to be handed over to a foreign party, describing the allegations as baseless.

The Minister made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the land reclamation project for Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo Airport.

He said false narratives have been circulated by political opponents from the outset, including repeated claims that the Maldives would face bankruptcy by the end of the year. Minister Zameer dismissed these assertions, stating that such a scenario would not occur under the leadership and policies of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Addressing the most persistent allegation – that the management of Malé Port is being transferred to foreign interests – the Minister reiterated that the claim is untrue. He noted that improvements in the Maldivian economy and recent positive developments have attracted interest from several international companies, resulting in the Government receiving various investment proposals.

Minister Zameer emphasised that all proposals are reviewed with care and that no decision would be taken that compromises national interests or public confidence. He assured that all actions taken by the President are guided solely by the best interests of the country.
