The Elections Commission (EC) has published the list of eligible voters, with 294,937 people eligible to vote in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, scheduled for 4 April 2026.
The list includes 144,527 women and 150,410 men and is open for public complaints until 3.00 pm on 18 January.
Voters can check their registered polling location by sending their ID number via SMS to 1414. The list is available on the commission’s website, the Government Gazette, and at council offices across all inhabited islands, except Malé.
The EC stated that any request to update information on the voters’ list must be supported by official documentation. Political parties may submit complaints through the SIM portal assigned to them.
In this round of elections, 626 councillors will be elected to island councils and 52 to city councils. On 133 islands, councils will elect three councillors, including a president and one female member, while 46 island councils will elect five councillors, including a president and two female members. City councils will elect seven councillors each in Kulhudhuffushi and Thinadhoo, nine in Fuvahmulah, 11 in Addu City, and 18 in Malé City.
