The Government will distribute 118,000 canned tuna cases as Roadha Hadhiyaa to households ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced.
Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Managing Director Farhath Shaheer said the initiative is part of the Administration’s annual Roadha Hadhiyaa programme.
Speaking to State Media, Farhath said production of the canned tuna allocated for distribution is progressing smoothly and that manufacturing of the required items is nearing completion. He noted that MIFCO is targeting completion of production by January 15.
The distribution of the canned tuna cases will be carried out by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works in collaboration with the State Trading Organisation (STO). To facilitate efficient logistics, Farhath said stockpiles have already been established in Kulhudhuffushi City and Addu City to support distribution to the northern and southern regions of the country.
He added that preparations are underway to commence distribution shortly, emphasising that advance stock positioning will help ensure timely delivery of the Ramadan gift packages across all regions.
Last year, the Government distributed a total of 111,231 canned tuna cases, including 60,712 cases across the atolls and 50,519 cases within the Greater Malé region.
