The Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO) has announced the launch of an AI Productivity Workshop for the Maldives tourism industry, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

The one-day pilot programme is designed as an industry-wide capacity-building initiative, aimed at equipping tourism professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) safely, responsibly, and productively in their daily operations.

While AI is already widely adopted across the tourism sector, MATATO highlighted that incorrect or unsafe usage can expose guest and business data, creating legal, reputational, and operational risks. The workshop will therefore focus on enhancing communication quality, operational efficiency, and decision-making, while ensuring compliance and ethical use.

Participants will gain insights into safe and compliant AI practices, reducing administrative workload, improving professional communication, strengthening decision support for managers, and building confidence in responsible workplace AI usage. Training will cover AI fundamentals, compliance and privacy, safe data handling and anonymisation, and practical prompting techniques for productivity.

MATATO confirmed that members of the National Hotel & Guesthouse Association (NHGAM), the National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), the International Halal Tourism Organisation (IHTO), and International Student Identity Card holders (ISIC) will be eligible for a discounted participation fee.

The standard participation fee is USD 150, inclusive of lunch, tea, and coffee, while strategic partner members will pay USD 100.

The event is supported by key industry stakeholders, with Ace Travels Maldives as the Official Travel Partner, Mookai Hotel as the Official Host Partner, and Resort Life Travel as a Supporting Partner.
