More than 2,000 passengers travelled to Malaysia and Thailand on Maldivian Airlines during the current holiday period.

Maldivian Airlines increases flight frequencies each year to meet higher travel demand during the holiday period. The airline said the additional services introduced this season were well received by the public, with most holiday flights operating at full capacity.

In addition to services to Thailand and Malaysia, Maldivian also operated special international flights to Cochin and Trivandrum in India, as well as to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia during the holidays.

The airline also expanded its domestic operations during the period. More than 500 domestic flights were operated, alongside an increase in seaplane services to cater to higher travel demand across the country.

As part of efforts to further expand its network, Maldivian has announced plans to commence direct flights to Bangladesh from 12 March. The airline has also been awarded the contract to launch air ambulance services to Thailand and Dubai.

In addition, Maldivian has announced plans to begin direct flights between the Maldives and Australia, marking the first time a direct air connection will be established between the two countries.
