Chief of Maldives Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy has underscored the significance of Exercise DOSTI as a vital activity to ensure security and safety in the region.
Delivering remarks at the inauguration of the joint DOSTI‑17 exercise between the Maldives, India, and Sri Lanka, held at Hotel Jen in Malé, Major General Hilmy emphasised that the exercise is conducted with special priority to strengthen regional maritime security. The biennial exercise was formally launched by Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon.
Reflecting on his participation in the first DOSTI exercise in 1991, Hilmy noted that although resources and training were limited at the time, the commitment to mutual support and maritime security was strong. He stated that this enduring spirit of cooperation continues to form the foundation of the exercise today.
Major General Hilmy further observed that DOSTI is not merely a training activity but a symbol of the close relationship between the three nations. He highlighted that beyond formal agreements, the friendship forged through the exercise enables effective cooperation in emergencies, thereby contributing to regional stability and prosperity.
The Chief of Defence Force also expressed his appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, acknowledging his guidance and support as the Commander‑in‑Chief. He affirmed that the nation’s defence capabilities have been strengthened under the President’s leadership.
