Member of Parliament for Baarah Constituency Ibrahim Shujau has stated that the election of an opposition-aligned mayor to the Malé City Council has resulted in delays to development projects in Malé area.

Speaking in an interview with MMTV, the MP outlined why he believes voters should support candidates of the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the upcoming local council elections. He said several development projects requested by residents and initiated by the Government have faced obstruction at the council level.

Shujau said that while the Malé City Council has a Government majority, the presence of an opposition mayor has hindered the effective implementation of development initiatives in the capital.

“The city council has a Government majority, but the mayor is not aligned with the Government. If PNC majorities are elected in councils across the Maldives, it will become much easier to implement development projects,” he said.

The MP stated that electing councillors who support the Government would allow development initiatives to proceed at a faster pace and without unnecessary delays. He also added that the coming year is expected to bring significant development opportunities for the public.
