Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that the port limit area of Malé Commercial Port will operate round-the-clock starting Monday, allowing ships to enter at any time of day.
The minister shared the update on X, noting that since November 1988, cargo ships arriving after noon are required to wait outside the port until 6 a.m. the following day. He said the Government’s decision to lift this restriction marks a significant economic reform.
Under the new arrangement, clearance and pilotage services will also be available 24 hours a day. The minister described the change as a major step forward, introduced under the policies of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and emphasised its importance for strengthening the economy.
Vessels will now have uninterrupted access to safety checks, permits, and pilotage services in line with International Ship and Port Facility Security Code standards. Officials said the move will reduce costs for passengers and save valuable time, while enhancing the reliability of Malé Commercial Port as an international hub.
