The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has opened bids for the development of new tourist resorts in the lagoons of Kaafu Kaashidhoo and Noonu Farumuli, two key areas identified by the Government for the expansion of the tourism industry.
According to the Ministry, the Kaashidhoo lagoon project will involve land reclamation to create a 10-hectare island within a 115.21-hectare area. The resort to be developed must provide at least 100 beds.
Meanwhile, the Farumuli project will see the development of a resort on the 0.41-hectare island and its surrounding 71.18-hectare lagoon. Developers will be permitted to dredge up to 15 hectares, with the resort required to accommodate a minimum of 150 beds.
Both lagoons will be leased for 50 years, with construction expected to commence within 36 months of land allocation.
To assist interested parties, the Ministry will host two virtual information sessions on 16 February and 3 March. Participants must register via email at least one day prior to the chosen session.
Tender documents will be available for purchase at the Ministry’s reception between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm on working days from 1–31 March. Application forms can also be accessed via the Ministry’s website.
The deadline for bid submission is Wednesday, 1 April 2026, at 10:00 am, and bids must be submitted in person at the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Enquiries regarding the process should be sent via email no later than 29 March.
