First Lady highlights football’s role in promoting unity and healthy communities

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that football serves not only as a sport, but also as a means of bringing communities together and promoting healthier and more harmonious societies.

In a message shared on X to celebrate World Football Day, the First Lady described football as a sport deeply connected to the hearts of Maldivians across the country. She noted that the game brings together people of different ages and backgrounds while encouraging healthier lifestyles and a shared sense of purpose within communities.

The First Lady further stated that football teaches discipline, teamwork and the importance of following rules, while also helping to shape responsible and principled citizens beyond the sporting arena.

She expressed hope that sports such as football would continue to contribute towards strengthening peace and unity within society, while inspiring young people across the Maldives to pursue greater opportunities and ambitions.

The First Lady also noted that football could play an important role in building stronger communities and supporting efforts towards a more sustainable future.

World Football Day is celebrated annually on May 25.
