President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the Judicial Year 2026, marking the commencement of the new judicial year and providing an opportunity to reflect on developments within the judiciary and outline priorities for the year ahead.
The annual inauguration of the Judicial Year serves as a formal occasion to review the work of the judiciary over the past year and to bring together judges and judicial staff in a common forum. The event is traditionally used to highlight institutional progress and reaffirm commitments to the administration of justice.
During the ceremony, Chief Justice Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed delivered the Judicial Statement, outlining key developments within the judicial system and setting out areas of focus for the coming year.
As part of the event, plaques were presented to judges and members of the judicial service in recognition of long service and contributions to the judiciary. The ceremony acknowledged the role of judicial officers and staff in maintaining the delivery of justice across the country.
Special events have been held to mark the opening of the Judicial Year over the past nine years, with the exception of 2021. The annual ceremony has become a platform for institutional reflection, recognition of service, and the reaffirmation of commitments to strengthening the justice system.
