A total of 43,923 canned tuna cases have been issued so far to households in the Greater Malé area under the Government’s Roadha Hadhiyaa programme, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has said.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said the distribution of canned tuna cases to every household in the Greater Malé area will continue until 11 February. The deadline for collection has been set for 11:00 pm on that date.

The distribution programme began on the night of 24 January, with several Government-owned companies joining the initiative at the request of the ministry. Distribution is carried out from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm, except on Fridays.

There are 65,230 registered domestic electricity meters in the Malé area, with each domestic meter considered as one household for the purpose of distribution.

A total of 14 distribution centres have been set up across the Greater Malé area to facilitate the process. Tokens are being issued to households to manage the collection process.

The ministry said local councils have been assigned responsibility for distributing canned tuna cases in the atolls.

Members of the public have been urged to collect their cases ahead of the deadline and not wait until the final days of the distribution period.
