President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in the Federal Republic of Germany on an official visit at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The five-day visit from 9 to 13 February 2026 includes official engagements with President Steinmeier and senior members of the German government, with discussions expected to cover a range of bilateral and international issues, with a focus on strengthening cooperation between the Maldives and Germany.
As part of the visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, highlighting the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation. The President is also scheduled to speak at the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he will present the Maldives’ perspective on the role of oceans in foreign policy.
The visit will also feature a bilateral business forum bringing together business leaders from the Maldives and Germany to explore potential trade and investment opportunities in the Maldives.
President Dr Muizzu is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, senior Government officials and representatives of the Maldivian business community. The delegation is expected to participate in a series of meetings and engagements alongside the President.
An official welcoming ceremony by the German government is scheduled to take place on 10 February. The President’s trip coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966. Germany remains an important trade and investment partner for the Maldives, with cooperation spanning development, commerce and climate-related initiatives.
