Three seats in two islands of the Haa Alifu Hoarafushi constituency have been secured by the People’s National Congress (PNC) without a vote in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.
The Hoarafushi constituency comprises Hoarafushi, Thuraakunu and Uligan.
In this constituency, the President’s seat of the Uligan Women’s Development Committee, a councillor seat in the Thuraakunu Council, and the President’s seat of the Thuraakunu Women’s Development Committee were won uncontested by PNC candidates after no other contenders filed nominations.
Across the country, several additional council seats have also been secured by the ruling party without contest. These include the council president positions in Alifu Dhaalu Dhidhdhoo and Mandhoo, as well as Haa Alifu Baarah and Utheemu. In Baa Eydhafushi, two of the five councillor seats have been won uncontested, while in Raa Fainu, one councillor seat has been secured without a vote.
Thaa Vilufushi currently records the highest number of uncontested wins, with nine out of ten island council seats secured by the PNC ahead of the polls.
