President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the Government's housing projects will be implemented free from political influence.
Speaking in the second episode of the "Nation Chat" podcast, President Dr Muizzu said allegations that influential individuals are able to secure flats or land for selected people have persisted over the years. He said the Government's priority is to ensure the public has confidence that its housing schemes are carried out fairly and without undue influence.
The President reiterated that housing remains one of the Government's highest priorities and pledged that all flat and land allocations would be carried out without any unlawful practices. He also expressed confidence in the officials overseeing the verification process.
Verification of applications submitted under the Government's "Housing for All" housing programme is ongoing, and President Dr Muizzu assured that the process would not be influenced to favour any individual, family or other group.
President Dr Muizzu also spoke about ongoing urban development projects in Malé City, describing road conditions as one of the capital's biggest challenges. He said the Government is working on long-term solutions, including improving roads, addressing flooding issues and expanding parking facilities.
He also stressed the importance of individual responsibility, saying lasting solutions require cooperation between the Government and the public.
The President further said he intends to increase direct engagement with the public to better understand their concerns. He announced plans to introduce a programme that would allow residents from different constituencies to meet him directly and discuss issues affecting their communities.
