The Government of Japan has donated a facial recognition system to the Maldives to enhance border security and modernise the country's immigration clearance process.

The system was officially handed over during a ceremony held at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Corporate Hall, where Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko presented the system on behalf of the Japanese government. Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan accepted the donation on behalf of the Maldivian government and Maldives Immigration.

The ceremony was attended by Controller General of Immigration (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer and representatives of the Japanese government.

Maldives Immigration stated that the facial recognition system will strengthen identity verification at the border, improve the speed of passenger clearance and reduce waiting times at airports.

Maldives Immigration thanked the Japanese government for its continued support in strengthening the country's border management capabilities, stating that the new system will enhance both the efficiency and security of immigration services.
