The Maldives Police Service has destroyed a large quantity of alcohol that had been seized, in efforts to curb illegal possession and distribution of prohibited items.

Police said the destruction was carried out at Dhoonidhoo under the supervision of a designated committee. The items destroyed included 777 bottles of alcohol, 225 cans, and 10 other alcohol-related items.

According to the Police Service, the seized items had been in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Department, Tourist Police and Hulhumalé Police prior to their disposal.
