Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and Maamigili Constituency Member of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim

Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and Maamigili Constituency Member of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim has reaffirmed that the party will extend its support to People’s National Congress (PNC) candidates in the upcoming Council Elections, while contesting only in the Maamigili constituency.

Qasim made the remarks while speaking at a rally held at the Jumhooree Party’s main headquarters in Malé City to introduce the party’s candidates and officially launch its campaign for the Council Elections.

Addressing supporters, Qasim said JP has decided to continue supporting the Government. He noted that the party will not field candidates in any constituency other than Maamigili. Instead, he said, both he and JP members will back PNC candidates in other constituencies across the country.

Explaining the decision, Qasim said citizens across the Maldives seek development for their islands and the nation as a whole. He stated that such progress can only be achieved through full cooperation with the Government. He added that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has demonstrated strong leadership during a challenging period and said there was no justification for withholding support from the Administration.

During his speech, Qasim also criticised the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), stating that it is undermining democratic principles while claiming to uphold them. He further alleged that corruption and misconduct were widespread under the previous MDP administration and that the country had been left in a severe debt situation.

Qasim said recent improvements were the result of President Dr Muizzu’s prudent leadership and wisdom. He reiterated the importance of electing councils that would align with the Government to ensure sustained development across the Maldives.
