The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has stated that efforts are underway to introduce additional flexibility and ease for civil servants in the workplace.

Speaking to State media, CSC President Mohamed Mujthaz said the Commission is reviewing measures to provide greater flexibility for employees facing specific challenges. He noted that some staff encounter difficulties in reporting to the office at fixed hours due to personal circumstances. As a result, the Commission is exploring arrangements that would allow certain employees to work from home where feasible.

Mujthaz said the aim is to create a motivated and stable work environment across all civil service institutions, including flexible attendance options in special circumstances. He added that the Commission is currently drafting policies to formalise such arrangements and expects to introduce the changes within the year. A designated “buffer time” for attendance is also being considered as part of the proposed reforms.

In addition to these measures, the CSC is working to implement policies announced in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Presidential Address to provide flexibility in working hours for caregivers of persons with disabilities.

The Commission also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Government to enhance benefits for women in the workforce. At present, female employees are entitled to six months of paid maternity leave. Mothers are also granted flexibility in working hours until their child reaches one year of age.

The Government is now working on legislative amendments to extend this period of flexibility from one year to two years, further supporting working parents within the civil service.
