The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdicts tomorrow in two cases concerning the upcoming Local Council elections and Women’s Development Committee elections scheduled for April.

One case was filed by Abdul Majeed of Kaafu Guraidhoo, while the second was submitted by Fathimath Suzan of Kaafu Thulusdhoo against the Elections Commission.

Abdul Majeed is challenging the rejection of his application to contest independently for the position of President of the Guraidhoo Council. The case is being heard by a bench comprising Justice Uz Hussain Shaheedh, Justice Hz Aisha Shujune Muhammad and Justice Uz Mohamed Saleem.

Fathimath Suzan’s case concerns the rejection of her application to contest independently for the women’s reserved seat on the Thulusdhoo Council. The bench assigned to hear the matter includes Justice Uz Abdulla Hameed, Dr Mohamed Ibrahim and Justice Uz Ali Rasheed Hussain.

Hearings in both cases were concluded last week, with the Supreme Court now scheduled to issue its verdicts tomorrow.

The cases were initially submitted to the High Court. However, as jurisdiction over election-related disputes rests with the Supreme Court, the High Court declined to proceed, resulting in the matters being taken up by the apex court.
