Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry has been appointed to temporarily lead the Maldives Police Service following the retirement of Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.

The appointment was made by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, pending the selection of a permanent Commissioner of Police.

Ismail Naveen officially retired from the police service on Wednesday, bringing to a close more than three decades of service. Naveen had been appointed Commissioner of Police on 10 June 2025, following the resignation of his predecessor, Ali Shujau, in April 2025. Prior to his formal appointment, Naveen had served as Acting Commissioner.

Farhad Fikry, who assumed the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police in February 2024, joined the Maldives Police Service on 30 March 1991. Over the course of 33 years, he has served in a wide range of leadership positions across operational, investigative, administrative and support commands. Prior to his current role, he served as Head of the Operational Support Command and as Acting Head of the People’s Directorate.
