People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate for the North Maafannu constituency council seat, Ahmed Faisal, has said that opposition efforts to hold the Government accountable by questioning the delivery of public services amount to actions taken against development.
He made the remarks while speaking on the PNC’s campaign programme Dhiveheenge Raajje, broadcast through local media platforms.
Questioning what aspects of Government work warrant obstruction, Faisal referred to projects such as sports complexes, council buildings, football grounds and courts established for public use. He said these are services that must be delivered to citizens and argued that opposing such initiatives is effectively opposing development.
Faisal stated that cooperation and alignment within councils are essential to fulfil the pledges made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He said that if opposition candidates secure a majority in the upcoming council elections, it could create obstacles to implementing the Government’s development agenda.
Faisal also commented on Malé Mayor Adam Azim of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who is seeking a second term, stating that it would be difficult to work effectively under Azim’s leadership. He claimed that Malé lacks a clear development vision at present.
Advancing Malé’s development requires leadership and councillors capable of continuing the work carried out by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his tenure as Mayor of Malé, Faisal said.
He urged residents to support PNC candidates in the Council Elections, stating that closer alignment with the Government would enable the delivery of meaningful development for the capital.
