In light of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has urged Maldivians travelling for Umrah, as well as those currently in Makkah, to exercise heightened caution in all travel-related matters.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation of Maldivian pilgrims presently in Makkah. It also revealed that efforts are underway to establish a dedicated hotline to provide timely information and assistance specifically for Umrah pilgrims.

The Ministry advised that, in the event of an emergency, pilgrims should immediately contact the Maldives Embassy in Riyadh at +966 506894477 or the Maldives Consulate in Jeddah at +966 530838329.

Additionally, all pilgrims have been urged to remain updated on the latest travel advisories and to strictly follow instructions issued by the government of Saudi Arabia and other relevant authorities.

The advisory comes amid a sharp rise in regional tensions following the joint US–Israel strikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks on several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Explosions have been reported in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, and Manama, with US military bases such as Al Dhafra, Al Udeid, and Prince Sultan Air Base among the targets.

The Ministry reiterated that the safety and well-being of Maldivian pilgrims remain a top priority, assuring that necessary measures will be taken to safeguard them during this volatile period.
