The Government has condemned recent attacks involving Iran, Israel and the United States, while expressing concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government strongly condemned attacks carried out by Iran against Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, describing them as incidents that have affected civilian locations such as airports and oil facilities.
The statement said such actions constitute violations of international law and the Geneva Conventions, and expressed concern that the attacks had occurred despite the Gulf states not retaliating.
The Government also expressed deep concern over the wider escalation in the Middle East following military strikes initiated by Israel and the United States against Iran. The statement noted that the attacks included incidents targeting civilian sites such as a girls’ school that resulted in more than one hundred civilian casualties, as well as strikes on hospitals and oil facilities that caused extensive damage.
According to the Government, the developments have further heightened tensions in the Gulf region and risk undermining prospects for peace.
The Maldives called on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and urged the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability and security in the region.
