Councillor Ibrahim Aboobakuru has announced his support for Mohamed Areesh, the People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate contesting the upcoming Local Council election in the West Maafannu constituency.
The endorsement was announced during a door-to-door campaign conducted by the PNC in the constituency as part of its campaign activities for the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.
Ibrahim, the incumbent councillor for the constituency, said he had initially planned to contest the seat as an independent candidate. However, he stated that he has now decided to withdraw from the race in order to support the party’s candidate and avoid any action that could weaken the party’s support base.
Areesh currently serves as the councillor representing Northwest Maafannu and also holds the position of Deputy Mayor of Malé City.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who also serves as the leader of the PNC, expressed his gratitude to Ibrahim for the decision, describing it as an important step taken in the interest of the party.
The President noted that both Ibrahim and Areesh had worked closely together during his tenure as Mayor of Malé City and commended their continued service to the city council.
