A multi-disciplinary team from Malé City Group of Hospitals has begun a two-day official visit to Fuvahmulah City Hospital inefforts to upgrade the facility to tertiary level under the Government’s health policy.

The visit, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Fuvahmulah City Hospital, involves a team of senior surgeons, anaesthesiologists and specialised operating theatre nurses providing technical guidance to strengthen existing surgical services.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said the team’s focus is to assess current capabilities and recommend improvements to enhance surgical care, with a detailed report to be compiled and submitted to relevant authorities following the visit.

The development comes as part of plans to expand healthcare services in Fuvahmulah, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously stating that work on establishing a tertiary hospital is expected to begin around May to June this year.

He also noted that additional services would be introduced at the hospital ahead of the commencement of construction, as part of efforts to improve healthcare access in the city.
