The People's National Congress (PNC) will conduct voting in 131 islands during its upcoming constituency elections, with the party describing the polls as one of its largest internal electoral exercises.
Speaking at a press conference held at the PNC headquarters, party spokesperson and Managing Director of Hajj Corporation Uz Mohamed Firzul Abdulla Khaleel said voting would be held in island constituencies, making the elections competitive across all 131 islands. He added that administrative preparations for polling would begin shortly.
Firzul said the voters' register has been compiled based on the list of PNC members registered with the Elections Commission, with only those registered by 15 June eligible to vote. The voters' list is now available on the party's website, while members can submit complaints regarding the register and complete re-registration through the party's online portal.
Voting will take place in both Malé and the atolls. The constituency elections are scheduled for 11 July, while elections for the party's upper council are set to be held from 15 to 18 September.
Under the party's structure, constituency presidents are elected only in constituencies where the PNC does not have a sitting Member of Parliament. In constituencies represented by PNC MPs, the respective MPs automatically serve as constituency presidents.
